    GT Wish List

Cobrajet brought up an interesting point in the 2017 thread, that in order to put in a bigger engine it would change weight distribution. Brakes, chassis & suspension would need improving.

But Mitsubishi said they improved the brakes by making them bigger. They also claimed improvements to the springs & dampers. Why, we're practically halfway there.

So what else would be needed to put in a larger motor? Can anyone measure out the size of an Evo motor to compare to the Mirage engine bay? Would this really take some heavy fabricating?

I know I'm not the first to think of this. I saw some pic of a Mirage here with its front-end dismantled.

What else would you include? What size motor? AWD?

    Dream big.

Since there several conversions around for rally cars I'd say it isn't impossible. How hard? Hard to say. There might be necessary mods to firewall or mounting for engine to fit. Width-wise there should be no problem I think.

That's what I was thinking too, but I've not been into modifying cars to this extent. Seems to me a 4-cylinder would fit.

beefed up suspension with rear sway bar, rear disc brakes, temp and oil pressure gauge, 1.2 turbo 90-100whp, 6 speed transmission,

I really like the sprint turbo/suzuki swift turbo and the original mirage twin stick turbo .

This is what I was thinking. It does not need to have more than 100hp for me. A small turbo, beefier suspension and wheels, standard body kit from exterior appearance package. For the inside I would want it to have nicer seats with more side bolstering, replace the piano black parts with a faux carbon fiber, boost gauge, flat bottomed steering wheel with perforated leather and thats about it. I would want it to be called Ralliart and have that stitched into the front seat backs and floor mats. All of those things are very simple for Mitsu to do without adding a ton of weight with a 4 cylinder.

This is not too much to ask.

1.0L turbo would be so fun, and now a days would be over 100hp. Add some stiffer springs and a rear sway bar. You don't need the flashy stuff IMO.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

Exactly. It does not need to be fancy at all. It has to be priced at around 16995 to make it appealing and I think that they could do it in that price range for sure.

I had a funny idea on the way home - tell me what you all think.

The Smart Fortwo used a version of this motor mounted at the rear axle. Wouldn't it be fun to do that for the Mirage? Two engines - front and rear.

Just think of the balanced handling. Also, one engine could be used for efficient motoring, two for fun.

PS: One wrecked Fortwo could be the donor for the transplant.
PPS: Finally, it might just be rated for towing.

    Let's see. According to Wikipedia:

Mitsubishi Mirage Width (Hatchback): 1,665 mm (65.6 in)
Smart Fortwo Width 1,560 mm (61.4 in)

    Close enough!

I wonder if the Fortwo has rear axle alignment problems?
