I would get a second opinion. I think they are hosing the guy. I've never had to have a clutch replaced, but a Mirage clutch kit isn't priced much differently any other car like a Honda Fit.

My dad had an estimate for over $2000 for repairs that were done somewhere else for under $200. They weren't even honest about really needed to be repaired & that was at a GM dealership. Another GM dealership he trusted more did the correct repairs for under $200. He later went back & let the other place know it, too!

If you don't know much about cars, I would get quotes from a couple different places on big items like this.

That should be standard practice - call around & get as many quotes as you can.

Hey Dirk, can you ask your contacts at AAMCO what they would charge? Surely they would have their own sources for parts, and by your recent experience they don't overcharge, right?

    $1500 sold!

I saw an ad this AM for a 2014 top trim 5-speed for $1500 or best offer. The ad is already gone - I'm assume it sold fast.

200,000 km on it, dents down one side. Owner claimed all scheduled maintenance, and new brakes on it.

Not to make this political, but gas prices are steadily climbing in the U.S. since the election, & I suspect it may continue. At some point, everyone driving large rigs may start to question that again?

It probably won't push people to Ford lots to start buying small cars again. Oh yeah I forgot, Ford isn't selling cars any more (except Mustangs - not known for their mpg numbers).

Has gas prices remained stable in Canada the past few months?

I have to believe there will always be a need for affordable, dependable transportation. I've said this before, Chevy Spark sales have been on the increase the past two years. I don't think that's based on anything Chevy has done with the Spark, except keep it on the market while the competition slowly dwindles away.

If Mitsubishi priced their cars more appropriately & had a better dealer network, I think the Mirage would be doing much better. Erik from North Carolina shouldn't have to buy a 2021 Yellow Mirage ES manual from Minnesota to get what he felt was a good deal. I felt that same way, & I was in a neighboring state.

Erik paid $10,400 OTD for a brand new Mirage & that price included the car being shipped to his home in North Carolina. Not everyone would feel comfortable buying a car that way, but in his case he already owned a 2018 Mirage. Anyone who already owns a Mirage knows what they are buying. I realize Erik may have qualified for some extra rebates, but that doesn't explain why he saved approximately $4,500 over his more local Mitsubishi dealership.

I happen to see this article appear the other day (even though it's not real current) -

"The Mitsubishi Mirage Results in the Most Hilariously Bad Car Review Ever"
    https://www.motorbiscuit.com/the-mit...r-review-ever/

There's no need to read the article, because it's as stupid as all the rest. One of the slams, however, is how much the Mirage depreciates. You can buy a 2017 for $7,000. Meaning it lost half it's value in 3-years. The reality is I paid $9,299 for my $14,220 (65.4%) 2017 window sticker, & I didn't qualify for any of the special rebates back then. So if you do the real math, my Mirage has depreciated about $2,300 after 3 years. Most new vehicles depreciate more than that when you leave the lot the first day.

A Mirage for $14,000+ is not a great deal in my mind, but you don't have to buy one for that price either. That's the message that gets lost in reviews.

Gas prices have been rising here too. $1.16/L. Doesn't bother me except when I use the truck to go camping, that'll leave a dent. I usually spend as much on diesel in a 500mile round trip on a long weekend as I would in gas in the Mirage for 4 months commuting to work (approx 2100miles overall)

Lumber prices are still climbing. An 8' 2x4 at the local homeless depot is now up to $7.88 a stick!

I stumbled upon this old add from 2014? the other night Attachment 20789 now a top spec Mirage is listed for over $22k at a Calgary Mitsu dealer https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/...2461?undefined

The blue base 2015 I posted above is back on the market @ $2000.

The revised ad doesn't mention that it was an Uber car.

I wonder why. Maybe because there's slightly more competition here in the small car segment? (Nissan Micra)

I can tell you the Micra holds its value a LOT better than the Mirage does, even though they cost about the same when new.

    ---

This one's not a screaming deal (ie. super cheap), but it's a very good value given the condition & kms. If I actually needed to go out and buy a car, I'd get something like this:

    2014 base model 5-speed with 89k km = 55k miles. Original owner Asking $4200

Excellent condition. Manual 89000 Km only, good as new. On winter tires. Very clean and VERY economical with its 1.2 litre engine. No repairs to do, everything is working. 60 year old male owner bought new in 2014 just changed for a new one 4200$
