Or do they?
While Mitsu's new subcompact "world car" has already gone on sale in multiple countries under the "Mirage" model name, there has been some doubt about whether or not that name will be used in North America. (The European version will be wearing the "Space Star" badge instead of Mirage.)
Previously, we have seen reports such as:
Mitsubishi Canada appeared to end the name game speculation last week. In a January 3 press release, its VP of sales/marketing described the debut of new models in 2013:... another Mitsubishi official said the car may not be sold under the Mirage name in the U.S. "We're getting the car," he said. "We just don't know if it's going to be called Mirage." - source
Source: http://www.mitsubishi-motors-pr.ca/e...?mediaid=14100... an exciting slate of launches including the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage subcompact, and next generation Outlander compact sport utility vehicle," said Tony Laframboise, vice president, Sales and Marketing at MMSCAN.
UPDATE, Jan 17th: that release has since been revised on the Mitsu Can website - "Mirage" has been removed from the above quote. The wording of the original press release can still be seen elsewhere on the web, however, eg: http://www.noodls.com/view/9B3AA38FB...AD891E45D93D15
I contacted Mitsu Canada's PR manager, John Arnone, and he confirmed the Mirage name in an email this week (Jan 7th).
So, while that appears to settle it for the Canadian market, the $60,000 question is whether or not Mitsubishi USA will follow suit, or complicate North American marketing efforts by calling the new car something else south of the 49th.
