Sadly; it is not like they have DI/turbo version of 3A engine in parts bin.
Funny thing Mitsu is no stranger to either. They were first company in Japan to roll out direct injection.
They might fit 4A92 into it though, or maybe even turbo Orion (4G18)?
EDIT:
reading more about 4A9 and 4G15/18 it is unlikely Mitsu would use 4G engine.
4A9 layout is very similar to 3A with rear exhaust ports and timing chain, and even with our gas and EPA regs it could still make 110-116HP in US trim. Weight gain will be very minimal, and decrease in MPG could be avoided by fitting higher final drive and/or 6speed MT.
50% HP bump with better wheels and suspension while keeping weight gain minimal all this car needs.

If the mirage pushed a smaller displacement with a turbo we could get a 100hp 100 torque car. Then just make the suspension awesome and we've got yourself a real winner.
Would be nice! unfortunately it is hard to turbo 10.5:1 compression port injected engine, and adding turbo, DI is more expensive than just using 4cyl off the shelf. And 3A engine exhaust ports in the back, not sure if there is enough space to fit turbo.
So common sense approach would be to fit 1.6L 4A92, which is already sold in EU on several models. 4A92 has the same design, bore/stroke and mounting points as 3A92, so the changes will be very minimal, and cost increase marginal. In EU its output is rated at 86kW/117PS, 50% more than 3A92 so in US trim with more free flowing exhaust it can make 110HP, give or take.
I don't know what Mitsu will do; just saying that 4A92 makes more sense.
And also time-wise 2017 is mid cycle refresh not full redesign. If you ask from product planning point of view following makes sense:
- face lift (that red hatch looks really sharp)
- revised springs/shocks
- 15" wheels (finally!)
- EVO version with bigger wheels, more suspension upgrades, body kit and 4A92 rated at 114HP
and maybe:
- electric A/C
- non-welded rear axle
- Auto stop&go option
- premium audio option on EVO, leather, etc

Everything you are suggesting will increase the cost of this model. As it is currently configured it is cheap to own and cheap to operate.
Not everyone wants feature creep.
On the other hand, it has helped the Civic and Corolla.
