Yes - thanks for the correction. Updated the post. I shouldn't be typing at this time of the day!

yhea he is not happy
i hope non of the EU models have this problem
maybe they fixed it by now on models rolling out of the factory.
I have one of the EU models, CVT with key ignition,
What I see is similar but not so loud as in the clips,
I seen that waiting 1-3 sec like flange suggested solve the issue.
Up until now I thought it was an embolizer(ignation shutter) slowness to blame.
I'll try to give more details later on.

go to the dealer!! asap
they need to replace stuff IMO
mm thats not good to hear!!!!
There is no simple fix, it can happen on any gearbox/starter type and in any country.
Return it to the dealer to fix under warrantee ASAP
Hi jid - we've yet to have any reports of a manual gearbox car with this issue. Supporting that, a Philippine auto journalist just posted on EcoModder that the issue is just with the CVT flywheel assembly, and that there's a backlog for doing warranty fixes.

That makes a lot of sense as the manual would have a different mounting for the starter motor. My Mitsi dealership in NZ got the car in immediately and fixed the problem - luckily they had just one set of parts left in the country at that stage. Otherwise, all good I have even been impressed at fuel economy (low 5's l/100 Km) and performance with 2 adults and 3 children plus luggage with motorway and country driving.
