Road Test: 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE sedan CVT (Clean Fleet Report)
This is a fairly thorough review of the sedan from a writer who focuses on cars with good efficiency: "Our focus is on vehicles that offer the best fuel economy in their class."
He also tries to manage his expectations (avoiding BMW-itis):
When testing cars,
Clean Fleet Report writers try to manage their expectations. In the case of the Mirage G4, that means not expecting a peppy ride.
Despite all that, he really didn't think the car is suitable for higher speed freeway use with the AC on, on hills, or high-speed passing maneuvers.
Likes:
- CVT improved from 2014, but still behind Honda/Nissan
- urban speed handling "excellent"
- tight turning radius
- large trunk and a sizable back seat
- nice dark chrome 15" wheels
Dislikes:
- can't get 5-speed on top trim
- MPG lower than expected: "In 671 miles... 32.9 mpg, which is four miles per gallon below the EPA Combined estimate."
- steering numb at higher speeds
- handling "was a handful" at higher speeds, "not easy to drive"
- seat comfort, no arm rest
- no passenger vanity mirror
- rear seatback does not fold
Overall:
the Mirage is good, basic transportation if you spend the majority of your time driving in a city or small town.... Mirage G4 should be on your shopping list. It does deliver excellent fuel economy and seating for five at a very competitive price.
But, if you drive freeways for long stretches at 65-70 mph, then the Mirage will not provide much fun or confidence.... there are several vehicles to choose from that may cost a bit more and get a few less miles per gallon, but are worth consideration as their overall driving attributes are better than the Mirage G4.
