Oh, and yes - tell us more about the car you towed.
Why save an autotragic Chevette? Was the trip for you or someone else?

This just reminded me: you have to watch the "Roadkill" YouTube episode where they tow a 2nd gen Prius at freeway speeds behind an AMC Gremlin.
It does not end well. But it could have been much worse!

I had a tire blow out on the chevette in Georgia or South Carolina. Had no issues in maintaining control. The place I had a flat tire was extremely dangerous so I refused to change the tire, I first gear crawled at 10mph for 4-5 miles until I made it off the 70-75mph interstate.
I am a chevette fan, I really want a diesel 5 speed 4 door. They come with an Isuzu 1.8L and are capable of pretty good mpg. I rather have a diesel chevette but I might end up settling for a golf 4 door diesel.
This chevette was for a friend, she paid me to get it and bring it up, the automatic transmission isn't much of an issue to a chevette fan as much as rust is. Being a southern car the under side of this car has less rust than my mirage currently. She paid $600 for it and $700 for me to bring it up. It's a very rare car as its a high output automatic survivor, cars like this go for $2,000 up north.
The roadkill gremlin, I'm pretty sure they were driving too fast or had poor driving skills. I had no issues during the sudden blowout.
The mountains I encountered in Virginia and other states going up i75 were a bit rough but nothing like the Rocky Mountains, I had to drop to second gear with the 18 wheelers and followed them down hill. Like I mentioned the brakes had no issues controlling speed on steep 9% downhill grades. It makes me think about the 1989 f350 3 car hauler and laugh as this was child's play compared to driving that rig. The f350 had the braking power compared to my mirage with the chevette and only using the emergency brake. A few of the Rocky Mountains I went over in 1st gear less than 10 mph for 2-3 miles. I'll post a pic of the dually .

She's doing good. Dash rattles a bit taking off loaded with pax, 94,000 miles, blower motor squeaks at low speeds sometimes, starter grinds occasionally, 2nd gear is rough when cold still.
