I'm surprised that Mirage sales are only down 32%. Nobody in the US has inventory to sell.

My comment was going to be similar. That 32% doesn't represent the demand on the car. Ya can't sell what ya don't make available. That 32% number is more of a sign of the times.

New Mirages have disappeared the past couple months. The 32% down in sales from last year will grow significantly the remainder of the year, unless things change drastically.

Well we're getting the 2022 Black Edition for a total price of $21k USD. My base 2021 CVT ES was $18k.

How much is a new corolla and/or corolla hybrid? they offer a lot of features like self drive(lane trace assist with radar cruise), blind spot monitor, push to start. on all but the lowest trim levels. Not to mention better fuel economy on the hybrid model. And the feature no one here cares about, accident safety. Side impact bars. Doors that dont bend when you lean on the car.

The corolla with push to start, moonroof and all the above mentioned features is only 23k USD total price in canada right now. No offence (lots of offence intended) but id feel stupid buying a mirage for more than 80% the cost of a toyota corolla with way more features.

It's very simple, a base Corolla by me, is easily going to go over $26k USD. 25% higher cost than owning the highest trim Mirage. A hybrid will be $12k more. Plus, I'm not willing to wait 2 months for a new Toyota.

You're forgetting our fantastic trade in value too. We got $10k for a 2017 G4 that we put 50k miles on and has electrical and HVAC issues. This is what we paid for it 4 years ago. So in actuality, we're only paying $11k for a brand new car, in a post covid economy.

The days of $12k Mirages, new, are just over my friend. This is the new reality that we're facing.

I don't think anyone is expecting the Mirage/G4 to be that affordable again.

G4 seems to be around $18,000-19,000 MSRP in my area (250 mile radius).

Corolla seem to be around $22,000 MSRP (same radius). I see no indication that prices are above MSRP for either.

    18,500/22,000 = 84%

Given how people drive in the Atlanta area & the greater need for A/C, I would be happier with more hp. Toyota's 1.8L engine with 139 hp would be my pick, and I don't even like sedans.

Adding features to a cheap economy car doesn't change the fact that it is still a cheap economy car, but I understand your wife likes the G4. If that makes her happy, it is definitely cheaper. Especially if Corollas are priced as high as you mentioned in your area.

When I look at vehicle prices these days, I am thankful that I am only window shopping (not buying one).

Getting close to what I paid for my new Mirage 5 years later would feel nice. Paying 100% more for approximately the same new car today would be quite depressing. That would not feel like a win for me.
