Hard to believe that a modern, fuel-injected car can still be flooded, but it's true! Glad you got it sorted out.

Engine cranked, but got a no-start / hard-starting situation that had me saying bad words.

Not sure your car was cranking over or not, but I soon discovered the clutch has to be all the way down to turn over. I had messed with floor mats one day. Next morning, my car wouldn't start. Quickly thought about what was different, and remembered adding rubber floor mats above the carpeted ones. Moved mat and car took off.
Now I have WeatherTech mats. No issue with them ever.
Your issue may be something else, but I thought I would mention it.
Yup - crank but no start.
Car had sat for about 36 hours. -5C (20F?). Previous time it ran was a -5C cold start that only ran for 30 seconds just to move it, without touching the throttle. I seem to recall someone else saying their car gets cranky after doing that.

Better to push it and not start it, or let it run more.

Yeah, they don’t like that. Happens to me too often, I forget stuff. One nice quirk I discovered with these(at least 15+) is when you start it, it will kill power to the starter solenoid once the car is running. And the starter won’t engage if it’s already running.

Still flooded 36 hours later (after the previous start)? That's the bit I don't get.
'14 will keep powering the starter when it's sort of running. Which is good, or it seems like it never would have coughed up enough RPM to sputter back to life.
(BTW, I'll move this discussion over to the related thread at some point... tomorrow.)
