I just did this job...so I'll add a few tips for anyone who may have never done a manual transmission fluid change...

In the US some manufacturers have had issues with certain fuels causing problems with sending units.

Sometimes these issues can be corrected using a high quality fuel additive like Techron. ...

I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue.

I would assume the same as you. Faulty fuel level sender, or bad wiring. I highly doubt the ECU is a problem, they virtually never go bad from...
