    Repainting my steering wheel emblem

I just bought this car last week. The person who had it before me left a bunch of nasty residue all over the steering wheel. When I went to clean it today everything wiped off nice and clean... However... it completely rubbed off the chrome finish on the steering wheel emblem, leaving me with this horrible looking beige plastic.

Anyone have tips on how to fix this/reapply the chrome? Is it possible to remove the emblem from the airbag cover itself, or will I have to paint mask it and take the airbag out of the car.

    Thanks

In the Mirage Modifications, Customizations, and DIY list sticky there is one on a vinyl emblem overlay. I have seen chrome vinyl or the options are endless. Best chance for success if your skills are as poor as mine.

    I would paint it red.

Well, the real me probably wouldn't do anything, but I think red would look nice, too.

I would definitely take out the air bag (don't forget to unhook te battery) and paint mask it properly and just use some silver spray paint to paint it.
This is something that you see every time you get into the car, and every time you see that it is not properly done, you're gonna be irritated about it (atleast that is what I would be doing)

thank you for finding that! If painting it doesn't work I'll probably get one of these.

I'll take a look at one of our wrecked Mirage's with a blown airbag one of these days and see how that emblem comes off. It's probably glued on.

My other thought was to mask it off and use model paint or nail polish with a small brush in the cap. If you're careful it could be done without removal.

We MUST be brothers. I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing.

BillAce - What a find. Red or "chrome" would be good.
