I looked back in my notes for this car and it's been knocking since last July at 434k kms. I only changed it cause it sound like crap. I've never seen one of these throw a rod or stop running altogether. The worst one was my own engine that spun a main or rod bearing-I forget now.
The Cam Box and the pistons look like they are from two completely different motors.

Cam box what? I googled it and it’s a porn site… I took one piston to a wire wheel on a bench grinder so it’s cleaner than the others.

LOL! Rocker box? Where the cams live.

Yes, I got that point on cleaning one of them. The pistons are trashed. The remainder of the motor is clean. Pan, I have no idea. That question still in limbo.

I had a slow adult moment. Not enough beer intake yet...
Oil pan is steel, painted black inside and out. There wasn't really any noticeable glitter in it, I just replaced the oil in it less than a week before yanking it out.

Yeah, the engine is surprisingly clean other than those piss tons.
I'll get going on that pisston vijeo soon.

I have that 528k 2015 engine to tear down and a 2017 with 4 or 500,000km too. I'd like to do both at the same time to make an easier comparison but it doesn't really matter I guess...

Give me 30 or so. It'll probably end up being 8mins of piston pics in various positions lol

    Burbon guy myself.

That's a piston that suffered a loss of clearance or lubrication or both and for some time. Scuffing, pin bore wear, coked rings, carbon build but good on pin face (90 degrees to the trust face). So not normal.

That just needs new Valvoline Restore & Protect. It makes old gunky pistons look like new!

Fummins, thanks for the interesting video!

The caked-up oil scraper rings and piston lower sections, eg. at 2.23, 7.25, etc, and yet free oil escape holes suggest not enough lubrication with maybe not the best oil. The "dimple" at 3.27 near the mark "12" is the dribble hole for lubricating the piston. Maybe a lubrication nozzle could have been better.

@Fummins: It would be interesting to know what sort of oil was used, particularly the oil quality and viscosity, and at what OCI's.
