Today's project: relocating the horns to more appropriate and better-looking locations.
I haven't had the urge to do much else with the Mirage lately because, well, it's just been perfect. I just passed 18k miles on the odometer and it's ran like a top. I'm 3 oil changes in since I bought the car @ 6k miles and plan to do the gear oil some time after 20k. I was curious how the Mirage would hold up to being driven daily hundreds of miles a week and no issues to report. The only weird thing I've seen so far is the "collision avoidance" light has flashed briefly in error a few times on long drives...and it seems to stay on if you idle the car for an hour or more (my car is my office, it is rare but does happen) but resets with turning the car off and restarting.
Anyways, today I decided to take FreeYourSOUL's advice and relocate the horns. I originally installed them pretty hastily like this:
It was perfectly functional that way, but it was ugly and kinda in the way if you wanna reach down and grab the oil filter during a change. So I took the front bumper off:
...and moved the left horn to the mounting position of the single OEM horn.
...and the right horn got mounted just to the side of the coolant overflow tank. Does not touch the tank and still able to remove the tank easily without messing with the horn. It does cover a secondary relay box, but it's a single 13mm if I ever need to get to that for some reason. Also I guess I could have mounted both to the front beam like SOUL did, but I didn't want to drill any holes. That is why they are where they are before and now.
The main positive lead sticks out and kinda bothers my OCD but it's still much more clean than before and the fuse is still easy to get to. If I ever get really REALLY bored one day I might just run it straight to the fuse box, but probably not.
Next project will likely be painted calipers when I upgrade to 15" Konigs but there's no ETA on that. Will probably run these tires on the stock 14 steelies and one more set down all the way before even thinking about that.

Today's project: install a short-throw shifter into the Mirage.
I got a short shifter kit off the Fleabay from a "brand" called "Ralco RZ" that says it's for Eclipse / Lancer / EVO VIII
Apparently you can drop this straight into the Mirage so I decided to try it, and it works great! There are a few writeups on this site already on how to disassemble shifter so I won't bother.
Shifts are crisp and short. I expect it to feel even better when I do the first trans oil drain and refill with Redline MTL.
