Yeah I read eastern Washington was a desert. Sounds cool to me. I like the desert, the dry heat might be more dangerous but there's benefits to not having humidity in the air. Atlanta currently feels like a hot wet blanket thrown on your face!

Good luck with your planning and your move Dirk. I just hope it's not a "grass is always greener" kind of situation, in the end. No, not that kind of grass, ya turkey! But then again, I guess that's part of the reasoning.

Is it for sure that you (or you and your wife) will be able to generate the same amount of income as you do now, so that you can realize the lower cost of living?

Out of curiosity, in terms of culture, Are the cities by southern Oregon such as Grant Pass, Roseburg, Klamath Fall anything similar to the cities by Willamette Valley/River? I mildly liked PDX.

I’m only about 45 minutes from Cape. Good little town.

The short answer to that is no. Grants Pass & Roseburg are pretty small cities. Roseburg has about 23000 in population and Grants Pass has about 39000 people. They are both on the west side of the cascades so they are surrounded by forests and agriculture. Climate is drier, colder in the winter & warmer in the summer than the Willamette Valley. Klamath Falls population 22000 is on the east side of the cascades. It's a high desert climate with hot dry summers and cold snowy winters.

We're in fields that never lack for work, education and healthcare, plus Cape Girardeau county is roughly the same population as Marietta so it's no "one horse town." Perfect sized college town with a big university, lots of schools, hospitals, etc. Besides if it isn't shaping up to be what we want, we'll just go a 100 miles upriver to St. Louis, where the cost of living is still cheaper than Atlanta. I'd get out too if I were you 7miles, it's only going to get hotter, more traffic, more violence, more money. Sell your home for top dollar before everyone realizes they're broke and move on up to MO, we'll start a weed and pug farm. You're always welcomed!

Oh yeah? How's the casino? I'm a big bingo man, as I've won more money playing that than passing it all away at Blackjack, that's for sure lol.

Don't threaten me with a good time! Lol, I just might do that. I love your pictures and videos, it looks like paradise up there to me, all that wildlife and ancient forests. I'm just thrilled I'm moving somewhere that has actual seasons.

Yeah, Hotlanta sounds like a crazy place. Having 4 seasons is cool except for winter. It's fun for a week or two but being frozen from November to March gets kinda old fast. And doubling your commute times because someone decides to crash every day is a bonus too lol

    Hopefully all works out!
I had a fun time breaking my last lease. When I got my last apartment I told the owner that I planned to buy a house in 6-9 months, he had no problem and was pretty flexible on stuff like that. Or so he said...I bought a house, moved out and was cleaning it out before letting the land lord know...He showed up out of the blue and I let him know my plans. He asked if I had a renter lined up. I expected to cover a month or two's worth of rent while he found a new tenant but didn't think I'd be on the hook for the remaining 6 months of rent. So I started my hunt for a new renter. A guy I worked with and his wife just got kicked out of some goverment low income housing cause they found out their kids moved out(over 18) recently. So they were my new renters lol. I left my damage deposit and they resigned the lease with the land lord. I had my co-worker pay me back the damage deposit over the next 3 or 4 months, thankfully! They weren't great renters...They had dogs, both smoked, and who knows what else went on but it was out of my hands. The landlord probably should have found his own renters, it would have been cheaper in the end.
