When it comes to snow tires, I have found fat tires on small FWD cars to be a horrible combination!

For my winter ridge roads, I would rather have a 165/65R14 Dunlop Winter Maxx @ or Nokian Nordman 7 snow tire. Looking at 175/6514 snow tires would be my plan B option.

Hard to compare your 22.5" diameter tire to the 24" diameter tires being asked about, too.

My 7,000th post was about tires! Go figure!

This isn't Europe where your insurance policy is instantly voided and your car is classified as unfit for the road because you chose to do something completely safe but not approved in the owners manual, which becomes law apparently and super cedes all the real laws and highway traffic act regulations.

Putting 15" tires on 14" rims has nothing to do with being safe.

You wouldn't be able to get them to stay on let alone be able to add any air to them.

If you have 14" rims, shop for 165/65r14 or 175/65r14 snow tires.

175/65r15 will not work! The last two digits need to match the rim diameter.

Mark, not sure if you noticed but the original post indicated 15" rims, not 14".

Tire discussions on this forum crack me up.

Yeah...Like Mark said(multiple times), you can't put 15" tires on a 14" wheel. Reading really is hard.

We run 185/60r14s on the fleet Mirages and I've had 175/65r14 on my personal turd for years now. 185's are snug for a 4.5" wheel but I've never seen any issues in the last 9 years and literally millions of cumulative miles using this size.

    You crack me up!

How can they have 15" rims if their car currently has 165/65r14 tires on their Mirage???

If you want to tell them 15" tires will work on 14" rims, then go for it!

If you currently have 165/65r14 tires, you cannot replace those tires with 175/65r15 tires (unless you are planning to buy new 15" rims, too). I didn't see where that was mentioned?

If someone decided to buy new 15" rims, then I would look at 175/55r15 or 185/55r15 tires. Most likely an aftermarket set of 15" tires are going to be 5+" in width & using wider 175 or 185 tires will not be an issue.

If you want snow tires, you are better off using your 14" rims. If you don't want to buy 165/65r14 snow tires, you can buy 175/65r14 tires. I would use new 15" rims for my summer tires, but that's me!

If I am misunderstanding the situation here, I apologize. I am just trying to be helpful & nothing more.

To avoid any more confusion, the tire size you mentioned in the first post will work on your car but will not fit on the 14" wheels you currently have(presumably). You can buy 15" wheels and those 15" tires will fit. If your intention was to buy 15" wheels to go with the 15" tires then that'll work. Mark and I missed that part of this thread maybe?

The last number in the tire size is the diameter of the rim.
The stock size for these cars that came factory with 15" wheels is 175/55r15.

    175/65r15
Size 175/65R14 on the 4 1/2 inch wide rims made for the 165/65R14 will fit perfectly!
If you really have 15 inch diameter rims, thats another story.
