    Which tire is best?

Hello! I have a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES. And I want to put some tires on from Vredestein. Does it matter if I get the size the Mirage SE has? Or do I need to get the exact right size? The SE has 175/55-15, and my ES has 165/65-14.

Just to be clear, your Mirage has 14" rims, right? 15" tires won't work on a 14" rim, unless you have plans on changing them?

I got caught in this a few weeks ago, not paying attention to rim sizes.

Whichever route you choose, stick to the same overall tire diameter and you'll be fine.

Yup! I got the p165/65r14 tires. Do you think the VREDESTEIN QUATRAC 5 tires are good? Thanks!

Aaaaah hell, here we go ...

And I don't mean that negative. Who doesn't like a good tire thread?

Vredestein Quatrac 5 is an all-weather tire with a severe snow service rating. I was planning to try a pair 165/65r14 Vredestein Quatrac 5 tires this coming Wisconsin winter, but they have been on backorder (Tire Rack) since November of 2022. Will I get them this fall? I have my doubts. Good luck finding them!

I have noticed 165/65r14 Dunlop Winter Maxx 2 tires are appearing for this upcoming winter. In the past, the Nokian Nordman 7 snow tires were also readily available. I have been using a pair up front the past 6 winters, & they have a lot of life left in them yet. My Nokian tires came from a Russia tire factory. I see less of them offered today. Is the war impacting that?

    Factory tires -
    Dunlop Enasave (340AB/no warranty)
    Falken Sincera SN250A A/S (320BB/no warranty)

165/65r14 All-Season tires - my top picks would be
    #1 Kumho Solus TA51a (640AA/75,000 mile warranty)
    #2 Nexen N'Priz AH5 (460AA/50,000 mile warranty)
#3 Kumho Solus TA31 (500AA/60,000 mile warranty) - may have been replaced by the TA51a recently

165/65r14 Winter tires - my top picks would be
    #1 Dunlop Winter Maxx 2
#2 Nokian Nordman 7 (studded or non-studded available)
    #3 Vredestein Quatrac 5

If anyone knows of a 165/65r14 tire that should be added to the list, please feel free to add it. There are several Chinese tires out there, but I have no experience with any of them.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE92 (260AB/40,000 mile warranty) is a LRR tire that has been around for a long time. In my mind a $92/tire Kumho Solus TA51a is a better value than a $145/tire Bridgestone Potenza RE92 (using Walmart tire prices).

If you don't like any of the tires I have shared here, I would consider a 175/65r14 tire (which will work on your 14" Mirage rims).

    Factory tires/outside tire diameter
    165/65r14 (22.4") - require a 14" rim
    175/55r15 (22.6") - require a 15" rim

    Common alternatives/outside tire diameter
    175/65r14 (23") - require a 14" rim
    185/55r15 (23") - require a 15" rim

You don't need to buy new 15" rims to run a 175 mm wide tires on a Mirage. 175/65r14 is a much more common tire size found in the States. Most tire companies offer something.

So far I am happy with the MOMO 165/65/R14.
    https://momo.com/en-us/shop/m-4-four-season
The 4RUN M4 is also branded with the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMS*) symbol and rated for severe snow conditions.
I bought them due to the backorder of the Quatrac 5 last fall when I questioned how long my OE Falkens would last. They wound up lasting to about 75K and I repplaced them about 6 weeks ago.
I think they could be added to the list.

    Momo look interesting.

Where did you buy them, & how much did they cost?

It's good to hear that the Falken tires did well for you. There hasn't been much talk about them on the forum.

I bought them from Priority Tire via eBay. $315 for all 4.

Since this thread is about which tire is best, let's talk about which tire is best in Georgia / southeast U.S.

Other regions are not important. I jest of course.

Actually a "which tire is best" for each condition below would be very interesting:
    • Inclement weather areas ... Fummins region.
    • Some inclement weather regions ... Mark's region maybe.
    • No inclement weather region ... mine and Dirk's (current) region.

Mark - I'm really interested in YOUR 1 BEST tire choice per bullet point above. Thanks!
