I broke/cracked the screen up when I opened it up. It was 2 pieces of plastic glued together. The screen is plastic too. I'll post some more piston pics later when I get home tonight if I remember. There was lots of buildup on the top of the pistons and intake valves. The oil rings were kinda caked with gunk, if that's the scientifical term for it.

I think I'll replace another engine... Another 2015 is pretty clacky but this one is different. Under light load it's pretty loud. There's a sweet spot where if you're light or hard on the throttle enough it's not too noisy. But sitting in drive while stopped it doesn't sound great, if you load up the alternator(turn on defrost, headlights etc...) it sounds like pooh.
If it were my car I'd just drive it but wouldn't want to go too far out of town...It's not a great look to have people drive knocking cars so I'm just gonna replace it. It's got 524k kms/325k miles.

325k miles is respectable ... especially when the drivers (maybe not all) likely drive them, how to say ... liberally. Eh, maybe liberally is not what I mean. But you know what I mean. You never can tell. I drive mine quite conservatively and do good maintenance. But it could blow up tomorrow.

I'm in the middle of replacing another engine(2015 with 520k km). The engine I'm installing only has about 18k kms on it. It's been on the self for the last 8 years. The oil pan had a big dent in it. I pulled the pan off was ready to bolt on a replacement one then I looked into the pickup tube. More red shmooh. I'll add a pic in a bit

Attachment 26621 I wanted to show how far the timing chain tensioner is extended on a low mileage engine. I'll have to compare it to a 500+k engine when I get finished up. I don't know if I have pics of the 450k tensioner before I tore if off.

Fummins (02-28-2024)
I only started keeping my own records for these cars in 2015. I started working on them in Nov 2014. Before that I don't know what the previous mekenic did or used.
I'll start with what I have starting at 38k km/23k miles.
-Up until around 90k kms I used Mobil 1 0w20 and Mitsubishi MZ690072 filter every 6000kms/3700miles.
-There is a gap from 95k km to 114k km. Either I didn't keep my own record or it went almost 20k kms without an oil change. I'll have to try and find the paper records to confirm.
-From around 95k kms I started using Klondike 0w20 full synthetic and the same MZ690072 filter. Initially, I pumped from a new 55-gallon drum into a container then poured into the car. After a year or so I started having the same oil pumped in my barrel from a 250-gallon tote cause it was cheaper. I wasn't a fan of that method.
-I can't remember when but at one point when new oil filters were ordered the Dealer refused to sell the MZ690072 filter and would only sell us the dinky one that comes stock without the anti-drainback valve. They claimed the MZ690072 should never have been used. But they're retards so....I didn't care, not my car or my call so I used the crappy little filter for a while on the fleet. Then the dealer increased the price of the filters one day and said someone screwed up and they weren't charging enough for the filters we bought over the years. So at that point I started using the Wix 51356 filters instead. Then one day Wix changed the recommended filter to a 57356. Not sure why but I used what they said to.
-Used that Klondike oil until around 440k kms. For the most part oil changes were done at 6000km but some were double that when the driver would forget to inform me.
-From around 440k km I started using Motosel 0w20 from a brand new drum.
-Noted engine was clacky at 430k kms.
Replaced engine at 458k km/284,000miles.
I'll edit this when I have more time if there's anything important that I forgot or messed up.
