I forget how to make the quote thing... here's a pdf link that may or may not work: https://www.transportation.alberta.c.../FactSheet.pdf
"Effective September 1, 2011, restricts drivers from: using hand-held cell phones texting or e-mailing using electronic devices like laptop computers, video games, cameras, video entertainment displays and programming portable audio players (e.g., MP3 players) entering information on GPS units reading printed materials in the vehicle writing, printing or sketching, and personal grooming Complements the current driving without due care and attention legislation Applies to all vehicles as defined by the Traffic Safety Act, including bicycles Applies to all roads in both urban and rural areas of the province The fine for this new offence is $172."
Cell phone usage has not become a federal mandate at this point. Each state could be quite different.

Wisconsin's cell phone laws are not very restrictive. Laws apply to youth, construction zones, and texting.

    • Hand-held or hands-free cell phone use while driving is against the law in Wisconsin for any driver with a probationary license or instruction permit, except to report an emergency.

    • No driver may use a hand-held, mobile device when driving through a road work zone, except to report an emergency.

    • Texting while driving is against the law for ALL drivers in Wisconsin.

I don't generally have an issue with the law. I do though dislike it when a law is not enforced or enforced discriminately. Or when those trying to uphold certain laws are cancelled (or similar). If a law exists, it should be enforced or removed.

    Another good point.

It's sometimes difficult to choose which laws to enact much less enforce. Some are a pretty easy decision.

I'll use speed limits as an easy example. Most would agree that a speed limit in a residential area is a good thing. Same with stop signs. But many if not most drivers tend to disobey both and even get upset with other drivers who obey such traffic controls.

People are funny. It's a blurred line between a simple agreement to just get along in any given society, and over-reach. I guess we wouldn't need all these laws if we all just lived by the Golden Rule.

My Golden Rule was no food in the new car. I managed to enforce that for about a year and a half. Don't want the new car smelling like filet-o-fish just yet.

Anyone else learn how to steer using their leg while eating a tuna footlong from Subway? Asking for a friend.

I don't eat subs while driving. They fall apart. But a Maccas double cheeseburger, the sticky "cheese" holds the burger together. I say "cheese" because it could be cheese, or some kind of thermoset plastic if Maccas can get away with it. In any event, it's a good road burger. Other than that, I would probably only eat Combos whilst driving. Crackers / pretzel tends to settle a stomach.

I'm the same. I don't eat subs in the car. I like everything added to the top of my subs, which makes them too messy. I don't do Chinese food with chopsticks in the car either.

But that’s the challenge. Basic sandwiches and granola bars are easy.
