Generally speeking, batteries should be charged in a well ventilated place, because the gas produced is a mix of hydrogen plus oxygen, being highly explosive.

you buy a new battery, it may very well be worth it to use the "rejuvenate" function of a modern charger. I recently tried that with my old replaced OEM Hitachi battery, and it is now almost like new. Could have saved buying a new one.

Good idea with the new batteries. I brought back an ancient deep cycle battery I had given up on with rejuv. My OEM Hitachi was a no-go . It is amazing how much battery chem and construction has moved in the last 20 years. Used to be lead acid, rubber case, in any color provided you are OK with black.

I got about 4 or 5 auto battery chargers. Mostly just from over time, and 2 or 3 just because it was something like, Anywho - I have yet to see one with a rejuvenate function. Sounds like a good feature. Maybe it's not a thing, in the U.S....

The rejuvenate function is usually standard on modern solid state charges. That function applies a higher charging voltage, usually about 16V to the battery for at least a few hours. . That makes the battery perform better.

Even the cheap (but good) $24 charger from Amazon has the rejuvenate. The super basic $19 doesn't. I bought 3 chargers loaded with features for $25/ea on sale. One thing cheap chargers lack is waterproofing. I don't leave them connected outside unless they are well protected. My Ctek brand chargers are sealed and can be left exposed even during a rainstorm.

Have one hooked up permanently to the battery just for this.

2017 ES with 160,000 miles and it has the original battery.

Our best friend has a 2014 manual with 180,000 miles and original battery.

2014 original battery was replaced around 2021 @ ~180k km = 112k mi

Original battery replaced around 150,000 miles. Just precautionary. I was surprised but also delighted at the long life!
