Sure it's a critical dimension, if its "wrong" your bearings could wear prematurely, as your tires could too, you might have caliper clearance issues, and maybe a few other less important concerns I am not aware of, but - go to theTIRE RACK and get the wheel fitments for our cars, you'll see there are several offsets available. I checked that the wheels I ordered (before ordering) were within the range TireRack offered and I haven't given it a thought since...
So - what am I missing??
To me it seems to be a silly fixation, 38 or 40 millimeters - if a huge corporation (TireRack) is ready to risk their reputation without a concern for the minor difference, why should I care?
