Before when I'd heard you and/or maybe others refer to the 2019 with manual climate as the best, I always thought in the back of my mind, "yeah, but they forget about the 17, 18 SE 5 speeds. But now, knowing the SE 5 speed came with pooooosh button start / craptastic climate control, I whole heartedly agree, the 2019 ES 5MT with a manual climate control is the best Mirage out there. Plus, I kind of like the cheapie steel wheels on the ES's.
I really don't like the the craptastic climate control, but I think I'd rather have that than the pooooosh button START/STOP. I tend to lose keys. I'd rather not have to buy that pooooosh button remote over a key.

Eggman (03-17-2023)
The 2017-18 ES have manual climate controls but didn't come with factory cruise control. The addition of the factory cruise in 2019 sweetened the deal, but the addition of auto climate controls soured it somewhat in 2020. They kept changing the ES each year, but the SE & GT never changed those years (2017-20).
Even though I am not big on features, I do like A/C, factory cruise, & manual climate controls (2019 ES/LE were the only ones with that combination, but the LE didn't offer a manual option).
Today none of this matters for the new Mirage. Features can't trump a lack of manual transmission option for me.
I would pay extra to not have a push button start. I can have an extra key bought/made for about $15. I don't like that key fobs are always sending out a signal that can be picked up by others, too. I feel it's a worthless feature, but I know some love it!
That was the kicker for me back then. I COULD NOT buy an ES because I'm a princess when it comes to cruise control. I MUST have it.
That pushed me toward the SE. It was a higher trim level that COULD get the 5MT, and had cruise. I just couldn't find a deal. And didn't know about White Bear back then.
