Here's a review after a week spent with the "Sport" model 5-speed Australian Mirage.

I'll give away the ending by saying that not surprisingly, they find that the car's strength lies its value for money at the entry level. When loading up on expensive options, it becomes difficult to make a case for the Mirage when the options bring its price up to the entry level price of other, better small cars.

This reviewer didn't like the character of the engine. Lots of other reviewers found the 3-cylinder thrum/growl a nice characteristic. Goes to show you have to take all reviews with a grain of salt and go try it yourself!

Like:

- safety
- front seat comfort
- quiet idle, free-revving engine (though noisy at work)
- ample rear seat room
- stopping ability

Dislike:

- dated interior design/controls
- quality issues in the interior
- steering
- engine note/character
- body roll

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars...

The pick of the Mirage models is the bargain-basement ES, which makes a lot more financial sense at the persistent $12,990 launch price.

Spending any more on the Sport is to ignore much better cars
