Too lazy to look up Rio/Accent numbers.
    Feeling less lazy today:

    - 7005 Kia Rios sold in Q1
    - 30 Hyundai Accents ????

Holy crap... did Hyundai cancel the Accent??? Ha. I probably already knew this and forgot.

Which is crazy because the G4 still has a decent size trunk and handles better on the freeway.

I know right?! It sucks and I wouldn’t be surprised if the G4 get discontinued first than the hatchback for 2024 model year. Rebadge Clio is set to be revealed in June for another international market.

I will say there aren't that many brand-new mirages on the market. My local Mitsu dealer had two: the one I bought and a grey G4. Gotta be the supply to some extent.

Bottom line - small economy cars are not popular in America.

Pricing is impacting Mirage sales. I will use White Bear Mitsubishi to make my case. When I became interested in the Mirage in 2017, White Bear had about 30-50 Mirages in stock throughout most of the year. I can't really quote what all trim levels were selling for, but I could have bought a brand new Mirage ES manual for under $10,000 OTD for most of that year. If someone qualified for the three different $500 rebates, it would have been under $9,000 OTD easily.

Today, White Bear Mitsubishi has 2 new Mirages in stock (ES & Black Edition). This alone tells me Mirages are not selling at today's prices. I really believe White Bear stocks what they sell.

Their Outlander Sport new inventory is 63.
Their Outlander new inventory is 90.
Their Outlander PHEV new inventory is 129.
They do have 12 G4 sedans, however!

    Dealer pressure?

Gotta wonder how hard North American Mitsu dealers are pushing to get the next gen Mirage/Colt/Micra/Clio over here.

In the States, the Mirage represented 15,816 out of 85,810 or 18% of total sales for all of last year.

That's a lot of lost showroom traffic & service income if/when they drop the car. Not to mention the opportunities to up-sell to other models.

For comparison, looking at Spark sales for GM, you can see it was an easy decision for them to decide to drop the car:

Spark only accounted for 13,710 out of 2,274,000 vehicles GM sold in the U.S. in 2022. That's 0.6% ... yes, less than 1%. Basically a rounding error! GM dealers really aren't going to miss it.

Considering Chevrolet had 10 times more dealerships than Mitsubishi, Spark sales were not keeping dealerships in business. I totally agree with that.

Having said that, I see GM & Ford being driven by profits. They are showing no regard for customers who may want a more affordable vehicle to purchase.

Toyota & Honda are much smarter & better run companies than most. If there was a market for small cars, they would be selling cars like the Fit & Yaris here. Scion didn't survive. In a way, they are forcing loyal customers to bump up to their Civic, Corolla, other models, too.

Brand loyalty means nothing when even the cheapest model is beyond the financing ability of the buyer.

You can afford the monthly payments for anything when you stretch the loan term long enough!

On a side note. Went up to the Chattanooga / really the state line between GA & TN in the Chattanooga area last weekend. There was Mirages everywhere (compared to where I live). My son and I were pointing them out left and right.
