I'm planning a full engine service. Going to change the plugs, filters, and CVT oil so far I think. I just called the Mitsubishi dealer and service shop near me. According to them, the only filter that actually needs to be replaced is the cartridge filter. The mesh filter can apparently just be cleaned with break cleaner and reattached without issue, so they say... huh.

How do you plan on cleaning a filter you can't open?

I recommend Aamco. They do a OEM fluid change and both filter changes for about $250.

Yeah, confusing to me too. I don't know man, they don't even sell them. They just said to clean it with break cleaner. *shrug*

They do sell screen pickup filter. We bought both filters and pan gaskets from the Mitsu stealership. It took a bit of arguing every single time but eventually they'd show me a parts schematic and I'd have to point to both filters...A cartridge filter o-ring wouldn't be a horrible idea to grab as well while you're at it. I've only ruined one once but it can happen easily.

The filter has 2 openings, like most filters do. You can blow through one end and pooh falls out the other end. Or suck it out the inlet, whatever floats your boat. There's no need to open it.

I checked on rock auto; out of stock. That's why I called mitsubishi. I can't believe they charge 50 CAD for the cartridge filter, that's nuts.

Nissan sells the correct cartridge filter too. I can get the part number for you when I get home.
