I drove a Hyundai Sonata less than a year ago when mom was car shopping. Hyundai and Kia are now the same company. The car was virtually brand new with less than $3,000 miles on it and I wasn't impressed. Sure it had all the bells and whistles, but it just didn't feel like a solid car.

People will buy anything if it is cheap. I don't consider the Mirage to be a solid car but it serves it's purpose. I purchased it because it has a simple 3 cylinder engine and manual transmission. Its a crappy plastic car, but I trust it far more than any of those hybrids out there. How many hybrids are out there with 217k miles and no real issues? To date I've only had an AC compressor fail and have done routine maintenance such as brakes, tires, and fluids.
Should I ever get in a car accident, my car will be totaled no matter how small the damage is. These cars are worthless but far more reliable than a Kia.
Mitsubishi ain't much, but they have been in the business of manufacturing cheap cars for a few more decades than Kia.
