We've got a 2015 Mirage with 180k miles. Wouldn't start, eventually checked compression, and numbers were low across the board, so assuming we jumped time. If the engine has jumped time, how likely is it that valves have been damaged? Thanks

Highly unlikely. There's a good chance it was flooded, washed cylinder completey out. I've seen that happen too. Insanely low compression, car wouldn't start. I was about to replace the engine when someone suggested doing a wet compression test. Numbers came way up. Just for Sh it's I put the plugs back in and held it to the floor. And....>it started. I can't remember if I rechecked compression, probably not as it was running and I figured it's best to leave it alone. Might be worth a shot. I think I did replace the engine eventually cause it had a pretty loud rod knock.

Nothing to lose, thanks, I'll give it a try. I'm guessing that if we jumped time at high speed while on the interstate, for example, we would have significant damage.

I think the Mirage uses camshaft and crankshaft position sensors to determine if the timing chain has stretched and provide an early warning before failure.
(i recall maybe reading about this in the manual)
please consider checking out my Mirage related youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6c...IEViRFw/videos
Wow, 500k KM, that is impressive. If it's not the timing chain, I've got new plugs, I've got spark and fuel, and it's not throwing any codes, any guesses?
Good to know, thanks; I'll take a look.
+1 on the flooded. If you start a Mirage and shut it off right away cold it will do this.
Have you put any oil in the cylinders yet?
