Has anybody installed plastic rain/wind deflectors above their Mirage windows?

I was thinking about installing some rain deflectors above the opening windows of my Mirage's side doors. It's been a long time since I've had those on a vehicle. They have, or are said to have, two advantages: (1) you can have the windows open slightly for ventilation even in rainy weather without rain coming in, and (2) whether it is rainy or not the deflectors reduce some of the noise usually produced when the windows are partially open.

I see some tape-on smokey plastic deflectors that would fit my 2015 DE, listed on Ebay, but the photos aren't clear enough to see exactly where they are to be fitted. I know that instructions of these kinds of things can be bad translations and unclear sometimes.

Could others who have installed these sorts of deflectors on their Mirages comment about how well they have worked for you, and also about any installation problems of tips you can offer.

    Thanks.

You can buy these factory Mitsubishi Side Window Deflectors from www.mitsubishipartsnow.com for only $58.38 (See link below).

or you can buy these from Amazon for $61.44 (See link below)

Honestly, I think they are both the same item. I believe Auto Ventshade makes them for Mitsubishi. They install very easily. I would suggest searching for videos to learn the best method(s). One video shows exposing only a small piece of paper backing, enough to get it fixed into position. Then while pressing it against the door, gently peel the remaining tape on an angle from underneath.

I have installed several sets of these on various vehicles. I had recently bought them for my 2017 Mirage, but haven't had the time or good weather to install them yet. I want to wait for a day in the mid seventies to do the installation. I feel that is a good temperature for the best adhesion to the door window frame. Make sure to clean the area well, as per instructions, and let it dry completely before installation.

WeatherTech sells them as well. I think their design actually fits into the window channel. I have installed this type as well. I prefer the tape-on application better. I don't like the idea of taking up space in the window channel. They have videos on their website as well.

Other members have stated that the in window channel mounting of the WeatherTech Deflectors isn’t very good.

The factory ones are very nice, and are the ones I went with. Installation is a little different than the other brands since the factory wind deflectors have supports that clip on the inside and go over the window frame and under the window gasket (it isn't as complex as it sounds). It makes them a little sturdier, and not as dependent on the sticky tape to keep them where you want them.

What I really like about the OEM deflectors is the finish on them. On most aftermarket wind deflectors, the lower edge is often poorly finished...like it was cut or stamped out of a sheet of plastic after being formed. The OEM ones appear to be completely molded, and have a smooth, finished lower edge.

How well do they work in keeping rain out and in giving quieter ventilation? As well as you hoped?

Nothing about the Mirage is 'quiet', but they keep the rain out fine. Since I live in the soggy Pacific Northwest where it rains 2/3 of the year, I put VentShades on nearly every car I get. As far as I am concerned they are almost mandatory around here. They keep rain from getting in and allow warm, damp air inside the car to exit. This goes a long ways towards keeping the windows defogged without having to use the AC.

I can't say these deflectors are any quieter than the aftermarket options I have used in the past, but they look better, seem to be of higher-than-average quality, are sturdier, and work quite well.

When I put mine on they were significantly more expensive than they are now. If you can get them for $60-ish, I say go for it.

Since I usually open windows to let more air in, I hadn't thought of how window rain deflectors could help let more of the air the vehicle ventilation system is bringing in get out of the vehicle quicker and better, to the degree that defogging the interior could be dramatically be improved.

This is one of the few upgrades I've considered for my own Mirage. I haven't had rain deflectors ever before on my old Escort or Rabbit, but they seem like a practical addition now to my Mirage.

Thanks for pointing out the advantages, especially the possible sound-deadening. Stuff you can't learn about from the package. Good to know.

Rain deflectors also add some sportiness to the appearance.

I don't think I said sound "deadening." And few responders have mentioned any effect on wind sound with the deflectors they've used on their Mirages.

I was thinking of how one usually doesn't have to lower car windows very much before the wind noise is great enough that you have to start turning up the radio volume, and, if you needed more ventilation, and lowered the windows even more, you might really have to crank it up. It's my faint recollection, from a vehicle I had some years back that had wind deflectors, that lowering windows behind them, but not lower than them, gave increased ventilation, but not much wind noise increase. I do wish more responders to this thread would comment on their experience with how their Mirage wind deflectors affect wind noise with windows opened behind them.
