I have no problem buying an aftermarket head unit and new surround, but I was curious as to the other Mitsubishi factory stereo.
I had a 2017 Lancer rental for a week a while back, and the speakers weren't any better than in my Mirage. There was a touchscreen, and there was a CD player.
I looked at my old Mitsubishi brochures from 2014, and sure enough, the Lancer and the Mirage both have a 140 watt stereo, 4 speakers. Fair to presume the identical stereo in my Mirage as in the Lancer. Only difference is I think the Lancer got a touchscreen first.
That all said, I think you can get a factory or dealer installed Rockford Fosgate stereo upgrade, I think that unit is 300 watts. So way more power. And all of those RF stereos are touchscreen I believe, not just some, as with the 140 watt unit.
So in conclusion I think in the Mirage touchscreen doesn't necessarily mean a better more bumping stereo, but it might. Depends if you have the 300w stereo, or the more entry level 140 watt 4 speaker.
