Was that your diesel? Looks like it had a 'fun' life.

Not mine lol. Didn't hear the story behind that one. Probably a combination of not doing oil changes and maybe a dash of getting warm.

I'd never do something like that! Gotta leave politics out of the forum, it brings out the brainwashed weirdo's it seems lol

That sort of mess happens when the filthy, saturated oil does not get changed.
If somebody really cheap would insist in not changing engine oil as it is supposed to, they could use oil compliant with VW 50400 specs. That stuff frequently lasts up to 50 000km or so in vehicles with electronically calculated service intervals.
See: https://online.lubrizol.com/relperftool/pc.html
and compare API SN with VW54000. You shall see.

Loren,
. . . . So true on everything that you have said. This engine did not have regular oil changes and I suspect it had mineral oil in it instead of synthetic. My RX-3 was run on Castroil GTX and the oil was changed every 3K miles. There was never any build up of any kind. My 323 was run on GTX for about 50K miles until Syntec came out and it was switched to 5-50. At 320K miles there was no build up of any kind. The oil change interval was 5K and it didn't use any oil between changes. My Protege was run on GTX until 20K and then switched to Syntec. At 140K it used one quarter quart between changes which were being done every 10K miles.
. . . . The only time I have seen sludge build up like that is when the oil was when mineral oil was used and it wasn't changed every 3 to 5K miles. Heat will hasten the sludge build up but it takes poor oil and a lack of changes to actually cause this. Engine oil flushes are a scam. Change the oil and use a good quality oil. The sludge part won't happen.
GOD Bless and Thanks,
rich!
