Thread: Fancy Metro (Mirage #1) :: 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage SE (Garage entry)

  1. General Information
    Fancy Metro (Mirage #1)
    2014
    Mitsubishi
    Mirage SE
    silver
    manual

"AS-IS special" I got at a North Toronto Toyota dealer with 145,000 km on the clock (90k miles).

Came with a clean Carproof report, service history from the Mitsu dealer next door (one owner, relatively well maintained).

It's so much nicer to drive than the 2000 Metro winter beater it replaces!

Other nicknames considered: Lifestyle Inflation, Metro DeVille, Silver Poupon, Mirage #1 of N

New, this car cost $15,898 + $1450 mandatory freight charge = $17,348. With taxes: $19,603. Doesn't include unknown dealer charges. Basically, $20k out the door.

    Details

Whoopsie-daisy on the front left corner contributed to its low, low price. Several other misc scuffs & chips in the paint around the car.

So, so dirty. The Toyota dealer didn't even bother vacuuming it.

    •

Busted antenna, so the radio reception isn't very good right now.

    •

Looks like it still has the original battery.

    •

    Cadillac soft! So soft.

    •

Came with Dunlop WinterMaxx snow tires 165/65r14 size and lots of tread. Looks like the wheels have never been cleaned - the finish is stained from all the brake dust!

Bucket of soapy water, a scrub brush and a shop vac.

I've cleaned lots of car carpets this way and I have to say, the mouse fur in the Mirage cleans up relatively easily - there's not much pile there to trap the crud.

    COVID-19 photo shoot!

    Oh Prescient Fummins.

I listed the car on Kijiji on Sunday out of curiosity... because it will never again be as clean as it is right now. Just testing the COVID-19 waters with an "aspirational" asking price. No actual need to sell it. (I would rather have a base model, though.)

I'm going to be parking the Mirage in a week or 2 anyway. Time to get the Firefly & beater Miata back on the road.

    Some of the beauty shots...

    GREAT SUCCESS!

In all serious, even if it was cheap, I'm sure bringing the car down from Canada into the US would be lots of horrible fees and terribleness.

Thanks! I'm sure it can be done, but I have no idea how.

Your Mirage cleaned up nicely! You did a nice job of cleaning it up! I remember it being a bit neglected when you first got it.

Here is an article on importing a car from Canada to the US: Importing a vehicle from Canada.

If the vehicle is less than 25 years old, it has to meet all US safety and emission standards. Right off the top of my head, I think that means a Mirage from Canada would have to have a functioning TPMS system before it could be brought into the US.

I don't believe it's too hard to import into Canada. You do have to enable drl, retrofit an aftermarket kit or jerry rig a wire from ign to headlights from 1990ish and newer. Probably doesn't matter on 25 year old??? My fummins was from the US, the carfax on that one was a mess! It lived in texas and florida, was at auction, odometer rolled back.

My first car was a US-to-Canada import... but that was so long ago I don't think they even had customs/immigration shacks at the border crossings back then. The previous owners imported it.

1964 Pontiac Catalina hardtop sedan with the 389. Bigly yuge.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the TPMS crap. Probably be the reason a Mirage couldn't live in the US from Canada. I think that was enacted in 2008 here? I can't remember.

Not sure if it's law here yet. Our 2019 Mirage doesn't have tpms. I believe head and tail lights on at all times is gonna be mandatory soon in Canuckstan. Gotta idiot proof and protect all the dumbazzes nowadays.
