If I wasn’t able to park in my garage I’d have a remote start in mine or rig up one of those cheap Chinese diesel burning cab heaters. They work amazingly well! I’d rather be somewhat comfortable and spend a few bucks a week rather than be miserable and die with a few a extra rolls of quarters. And I’m a cheap ass for the most part!

I recently saw the movie "1917". I think a WWI veteran (that spent some time in those trenches) would give a different description of what being miserable is.
Uncomfortable to me is driving a motorcycle in the cold rain. I wear a jacket to work & don't mind wearing gloves for a few minutes. I have never felt that close to death in my Mirage at any temperature.
The difference between using an engine block heater for a couple hours and not is a difference of about 0.5 mile down the road. That's using the cold engine temperature light going off as my measuring gauge.
I do like having a remote for my TV, however!

I found a reason to warm up the car for a little more than 30 seconds- when I am starting the car and there is snow or ice on the windshield and windows. I don't turn the heater on usually until the green light turns off. I use a brush/scraper to clean it. But I think it is ok for a couple minutes. I prefer not to waste the gas, especially if it does not cause any long term wear on the car for driving it after 30 seconds. Where I live in the midwest, there might be 10-15 cold days under 15 Farenheit, and a handful under 5 degrees, so I do not have to idle it for long but idle it a little longer than on a warm day.

The heater starts to put out heat almost instantly, no need to wait around for the thermostat to open.

Live near the Capital of NY, 150 miles north of NYC, the entire state is becoming a nanny state, people are leaving.
We had 2 suzuki sx4s awd both with cvts from 2012-2016 the cvt ran the same cold start to normal tempature.
It will be interesting to see how the anti idle is enforced... it will be a revenue generator...
Getting back to Dott with the cvt this is the first car I ever had to let warm up due to mechanicals.
I can sympathize a little, but the Mirage is actually the smallest offender. If everyone drove a Mirage, air quality would be relatively cleaner. The problem is the size of mufflers on heavy trucks like 6,000lbs and above are so much more offensive when done and SUVs are the smallest car size manufactured by Ford for the U.S. market today, since the Fusion is going all-out Outback style.
I think if pollution became so bad, then new sales of gas-powered might be banned eventually like 14 countries.

Once electric cars become affordable and even cheaper than gas, I think it would be more practical to have an exception for amateur race car tracks, where people can race their gas cars instead of having to complain about them being banned. The reasoning being is that for every vehicle with more than 100 horsepower is more than what is needed for driving. A Tesla Cybertruck can tow better than an F-150, so I think the need for horsepower should be reduced for everything except work vehicles (not taxi vehicles) and entertainment.

I don't follow your logic....Mufflers absorb pollution?
A cybertruck might tow better than an f-150 but so can an f250....But until they start selling the magical cybertruck they can make any claim and promise they want to. When is the tesla semi coming out again???? I won't consider a tesla until the range is better and prices come down, or atleast replacement batteries become affordable.
I would consider a hyundai ioniq though if I were to get something newer and less prone to dying in.
