My 2014 European has no rear headrests, nor any holes for putting them in. The vertical rear bench is just a little raised in three spots.
Later built cars do have three rear headrests though.
Sounds like no headrests at all, or even drill holes for them at all. So you swapped yours eh?

My rear seat headrests look brand new. Since the 1st week of owning my Mirage, they have been sitting on a shelf in a closet. I seldom have rear passengers, however. My rear seats are down most of the time.
I agree, however, that rear headrests could be smaller & adjustable. If someone tall is sitting in back, it could be adjusted up for them. Otherwise, they could be somewhat low profile the rest of the time.
If I knew that I was picking up multiple people somewhere, I would put the rear headrests back in for the day. It's not something I would spend money on to change, but I am cheap!

I always have left my headrests in the trunk, for the odd time, like New Years when I have unexpected passengers. I feel like it's a liability if they are sitting on my shelf at home.
There's a lot of yard debris in my trunk. Usually in and out... so maybe something sapped onto the headrests and caused more damage than water of an equal amount would have rusted. I still can't figure it
