Yea eh I know what you mean. My 1997 Ford Escort wagon was around $70 a month when I sold the car, and with buying my new Mirage back in 2014 now, my insurance went up to around $95 if I remember. Now it's like $86.
Anyways for insurance in Canada, it's house insurance that's gone crazy expensive, because of the housing bubble.
My deductible on my house insurance is like 2 grand. In my neighbourhood, there is a Corvette C7 and a VW Type R within the square of my house. Not sure what is happening in this world. Money and no brains as far as I can see... who buys a 40 grand hatchback anyways.
I will also say that my Mirage's insurance and my Escort's insurance.. are were apples to oranges, old cars are cheaper to insure. But they are also not as safe?
Insurance is a big scam as far as I am concerned.

I'm interested in hearing other's experience with USAA. I've heard their rates are unbeatable, but I've also heard horror stories if they are involved in a claim.

I'm sure it depends on which state you're in (they have local offices in various states). I haven't had to make any claims, so I don't know personally.

You might want to take notice of some of the comments in response to this article:
Nerdwallet: USAA Insurance Review 2020
Members of USAA who have tried to file a claim as well as claims filed against USAA members are problematic in both detail and in numbers.
I've heard that if one qualifies for the insurance, they offer some of the lowest premiums going. According to these reviews, getting them to actually provide coverage is a difficulty.
However, US News & World Report is sweet on them.
That's why I'm curious to know who uses USAA and has had to make a claim against their policy.

I've noticed the complete opposite. I guess if you're comparing a 2018 Mirage to a 2004 Phantom then yes I totally agree with you.

Please explain that meme to me. I don't get it lol. I'm pretty open minded, except for extremists and people who say 2 plus two is five. Bad grammar never helps anyone's cause, either.
In regards to insuring my Mirage, went up like 10% this year. TD insurance says inflation. Already their house insurance deductable is 2 grand. So what the heck do I pay for insurance for??

2 plus too is 5
My car insurance went up this year too. My insurance company notified us last year of the upcoming rate hike. It's still noticeably cheaper to insure my 2005 truck than my 14' Mirage that's worth far less.

I don't think it is that simple. A newer model may have some safety features that contribute to the difference, however.
