Is it still true that the G4 has worse gas mileage than the hatchback (both manual)?
Or was this just comparing the G4 vs the CVT?

My manual 2018 G4 gets about 35mpg around town, 50mpg at 50mph, 45mpg at 65mph, and about 39mpg at my usual 80mph, holding right atound 4000RPM. Also, the ECO light goes off after I hit 80, lol.

Just looking at the website data -
G4 manual
curb weight = 2117 pounds
city = 33 mpg
hwy. = 40 mpg
combined = 35 mpg
Mirage manual
curb weight = 2029 pounds
city = 33 mpg
hwy. = 41 mpg
combined = 36 mpg
Living in Wisconsin, I typically see 40-45 mpg during the winter months & 45-50 during the summer months with my 2017 Mirage ES manual. If I push the car really hard on the interstate with the A/C on, it drops to the 40-45 mpg range during the summer. I never use my dash for calculation. I hand calculate at the pump. I've only seen below 40 mpg twice, & that was during extreme cold temperatures (-20F or lower) last year (winter of 2018-19) with my Mirage.
Traditionally it is believed, despite the heavier weight, that a sedan has better aerodynamics at higher speeds like 60+mph.
Which makes the hatch a good pair with a CVT, and a sedan with a manual, using the hatch in the city, and the sedan on suburbs/the longer travel.
At some speed I'm expecting to see a more noticeable difference between the hatch and the sedan in mpg.
As an owner of 2, the G4 is more comfortable on long roadtrips but in my experience isnt as fuel efficient as my hatch. The difference is small though because Im running cheapo 175 65 14 Barums non llr.
