Been wondering for a while what this hose is going to the transmission. Vacuum hose? I've searched everywhere and I can't figure it out. Thanks a lot!

Gnestovia,
. . . . It is a vent hose for the trans.

That's what I was thinking. Should the hose need a filter on it to keep dirt from entering? Appreciate it!
Gnestovia,
. . . . Nah! That loop in the hose keeps dirt and water out. Just like the goose necks on the house feed for the electrical cables.

That breather hose in the picture is an interesting alternative to what mine came with!
On mine the MT transmission vent is more of the conventional sort. A vent with a little metal cap over it with a spring under it. The spring for preventing the cap from resting on the vent, and being sucked onto the vent and sealing it off.
On mine the cap was actually sucked onto the vent with the spring fully depressed, and creating a vacuum when things cooled down. I realized early enough so that there was no further damage to the oil seals.

I wonder if someone that's concerned with debris making it's way in there could replace it with those little PCV air filters you see on the valve cover breather ports, without any ill affects?

Foama,
. . . . If they are really concerned you could also put a small wad of steel wool in the end. I wouldn't but you could!

You can remove it all together if you want to save weight
