Definitely the compressor....
This may be the easiest car to work on... Seriously, I took out the alternator, to get to the compressor, took me like 45 minutes from start to finish. It's got a surprising amount of room in the engine bay...

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Is it internal or is it coming from the clutch area?
Do you have the equipment to evacuate and recharge the system?

Thanks for posting the picture of what it's supposed to look like. I couldn't tell for sure without that pic. Is it just me or do these AC clutches look a little flimsy?

It appears to be packed full of Chinesium. I'm surprised I haven't seen one pile up yet first hand, it's not like they don't get used year round.

As cheap as they look, I'm surprised there haven't been more failures?!? I'm thinking of the Mirage's engine screaming at 4000+ RPMs at 80mph while the AC clutch is cycling on/off.

I promise, that's the compressor I took out of it.
Also I found out today that the correct volume of oil, is 2 ounces.
