This is a thread devoted to 165/65r14 tires that are sold in the States.
Unlike some countries, we are not blessed with many 165/65r14 tire options.
Suggestions for this thread -
1. If you find an incorrect/missing tire fact, please post it. I will update/change the list.
FYI - It’s not uncommon for winter tires to lack a UTQG or mileage warranty.
2. If someone posts a short comment (one or two line) about a tire, I will try to add their short comment to that listed tire.
3. If you feel another 165/65r14 tires should be added to the list, please provide whatever information you can. I will do my best to edit the second post as time goes on.
4. I will attempt to place tires in one of three categories (all-season, all-weather, or dedicated snow/winter tire).
5. 175/65r14 tires (23”) are probably the most common upgrade to 165/65r14 factory tires (22.4”), & the diameter variance is 2.7%
Likewise, 185/55r15 tires (23”) are probably the most common upgrade to 175/55r15 factory tires (22.6”), & the diameter variance is 1.8%.

6. Comparing apples to apples -
A 165/65r14 Kumho Solus TA31 tire (60,000 mileage warranty) is 14.2 pounds.
A 185/55r15 Kumho Solus TA31 tire (60,000 mileage warranty) is 17.8 pounds.
A larger tire = more weight. Some of that can be countered by lightweight rims, but a wider 15" rim will most likely weigh more than a narrower 14" rim made of the same material/design.
7. If you have decided to move on from 165/65r14 factory size tires & not look back, this is probably not the thread for you.
The load/speed rating, UTQG*, maximum psi, tread depth, tire weight, approved rim width, tire diameter, section width**, mileage warranty, & country of origin will be listed for each tire.
load/speed ratings
78 - 937 pounds
79 - 963 pounds
S - 112 mph
T - 118 mph
* UTQG - "Uniform Tire Quality Grading". A system developed by the Department of Transportation, which helps consumers compare and rate tires on tread wear, traction, and temperature.

** section width when mounted on 5" wide rims
