I had to replace a rad fan on a 2017 Mirage last June. The fan melted off the motor. It started smoking again today. Driver said it made noise and smoke came out from under the hood. I drove up and the fan was loose and rubbing on the rad. I unplugged the fan and it was driven back to the shop a few blocks. Once it cooled down the fan looks fine...but it let out the smoke. I don't have any more 2017 cooling fans kicking around and for some reason the 17's have a 2 wire plug and the 2015's have a 4. The 15' has much thicker gauge wires than the 17'. I'm planning to just glue together the 2 pos and 2 neg leads on the 15' pigtail and splice them to the positive and negative leads that went to the old fan. Worst case something starts smoking...
We get the same thing on the Kymco forum: get's fixed, get sold or burns to the ground and after several techs trying to help, asking ten questions, getting two answered.....it just stops! All us "genius techies" get left waiting for the least shoe to drop...

Kymco as in atv's, scotters and that kinda thing?

I test drove this thing. Didn't overheat, it is cold and snowing mind you. Fan does kick on a few seconds after hitting the ac button and though is higher speed than normal seems so far so good. I'll find out in a hurry tomorrow as it's used mostly out on the highway with 387k kms on it.
Me thinks the original fan crapped out just because. The second one may have whacked the rad. This car rear ended someone in the fall with what looked like next to no damage. Once I pulled the top of the bumper cover back I could see the rebar caved in on the passenger side so it took a pretty good hit and hid it well. The "new" fan isn't close to touching the rad, I could probably put a finger in there. Coolant temps hovered around 90-94C (194-201F). Not hot enough to kick the fan in anyways.

Yes, and the scooters are my thing. Got a 300 cc 4-valve head EFI scoot that easily cruises freeways. Even put a car tire on the back because I got tired (?) of changing every 3 to 6 k miles.

The 2015 fan has 2 grounds and 2 power wires. They are fed power through two separate relays. One circuit for low speed and the second circuit kicks in as well to give high speed..

The 2017 Fan has one power and one ground wire. I assumed the voltage is varried to change the speeds. I also assumed that if I just connected both circuits of the 2015 fan then it would hopefully work properly on the 2017? I tested both high and low speeds with the scan tool and it seems like both settings give the same high speed....I'll go road test it and see if it catches fire or starts lighting up the dash with random warning lights before calling it good.

Amazing the minute and large differences between different model years even though the overall drivetrain hasn't changed.
