I love the engineered efficiency in the Mitsu, but when you're talking about a difference of maybe 0.5 or 1.0 L/100 km between the cars (rough guess), that's not going to sway anyone to fork over $2500 extra for a Mirage.
Can Mitsu afford to chop $2k from their MSRP? Will they even try? It's going to be VERY interesting to see how the competition reacts to this.
It is possible. Just to play devil's advocate, though, the Mirage has the following in its favour:
10 year warranty
0% financing for 4 years (worth about $1300 in interest if you have zero down payment), $500 prepaid Mastercard, $500 trade-in bonus.
Let's assume 1l/100km differenceX20 000 km/year = 200l/year so in five years the Mirage saves 1000l or perhaps $1150 more (double that if you keep the vehicle 10 years).
It is the most fuel efficient - like the most HP in a muscle car, or towing/payload in a truck, I think buyers in this class might enjoy the idea of the best efficiency (although they might also like the cheapest price).
In any case, I am glad we have more choices of this type.
