I remember my uncle having a red one when I was a kid. It seemed like he was working on it more than driving it, however.

He's a bit of a tightwad both now & then. I may come by it genetically myself.

I also think it's cool. But unless one has some play money, that thing is only to look at, and maybe drive to a car show. It is no longer a viable tool. And as such, I wouldn't either put much money in it, or sweat not having it. I like show cars as much as the next guy, but a daily tool is more important.

I thought that Honda looked familiar, there's an identical one on the first page of this thread that sold for almost 20k.

This 1995 Mitsubishi Delica JB500 is a right-hand-drive camper van that was imported to the US from Japan in December 2021 and subsequently acquired by the current owner. The van is finished in white over gray cloth upholstery and powered by a 2.5-liter turbodiesel inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Equipment includes 15″ steel wheels, towing mirrors, a retractable awning, front and rear air conditioning, a shower, a sink, a cab-over bed, a kitchen, a dinette, a bathroom, storage cabinets, a propane heater system, a rear-view camera, a wood steering wheel, and a double-DIN stereo. Service in April 2022 consisted of refurbishing the radiator, changing the fluids, and replacing the timing belt, shocks, drive belts, balance shaft seals, valve cover gaskets, fuel filter and housing, and transfer case mount. This Delica JB500 camper is now offered on behalf of the current owner in California with recent service records and a clean Tennessee title.

I found what may be sort of a deal. A 2014 volt for $16k? It looks like the fancy one with the lane departure junk and radar cruise? https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/...rce=ios_social

I'll give the seller some credit. He's pretty much letting you know all of the downsides of this car up front. It could be OK for the right person.

My biggest concern is that if/when this thing needs a new battery, it will easily exceed the purchase price of the car. I don't know if there's any realistic option for replacing the battery in these things.

i-Miev batteries are horribly expensive. Way more than that car costs, unfortunately.

Looked into it before I bought my Nissan Leaf. Dealer looked it up and said the battery was like $14,000 if I remember right.

It has low miles...but the battery is 10 years old (and the real killer...it's probably out of battery warranty). The battery has degraded enough to where its current range makes it barely practical for most people. 3 years from now, this thing might only be good for 20 miles of range in the middle of winter. At that point, it's worthless without a new battery. That's probably why this thing is still for sale.

I'd offer him $3500 but I'm scared that he might take it.

I can't believe what Carvana is asking for similar cars. Maybe these still have battery warranty left?
