How much shaking is normal in a new mirage?

Bought my first NEW car, a 2022 mirage. I love it, gets good MPG, the 5 speed feels nice, clutch is good, all around a nice car.

But it shakes. Of course, I knew it would shake being a 3 cylinder. But how much should it shake? I've heard of occasional screw ups with counter balance shafts from the factory and I know cars have a bathtub curve for when problems are likely to show up - electrically or mechanically. So how much shaking is "typical?"

I can feel it in my seat while idle and BARELY in my wheel. It makes my water vibrate in the cup holder and my exhaust is doing a fun little dance almost an inch all over. I can see the motor shaking under the hood, though only a little. Normal? This is the biggest purchase of my life so far, just being diligent!

Yeah...don't look at the engine at idle. It looks like it's gonna shake apart but that's the nature of the beast. It's normal. These things shake so much at idle the air cleaner wears out where the snorkel attaches. They aren't as smooth as a rolls royce or even a kia. But they are more reliable. These don't have a counterbalance shaft. Their just a shaky 3 cylinder.

    And welcome btw.

I just assumed they did.... people kept telling me they did. But if they don't then it's actually surprising how smooth it is. And yeah I didnt buy it for comfort, though honestly it's not bad

Every now and then mine starts up with lots of shaking. Restarting or starting to drive, it usually stops.

I was gonna post a video of mine at idle last night but it looked considerably smoother on camera than in real life. This was after driving for 30 mins.

Renaulter - Drive it down to Atlanta and Dirk and I will check it to make sure it's ok. See ya Saturday!

3 cylinders are less (or not) self-balancing than (like) other configurations. A long time ago, like 30 - 40 years ago, 3 cylinder engines were vibration beasts (from I've heard). They've come a looooong way balancing our 3-Tapper. I find it amazing how smooth it is. I have a Lexus LS 460L. 4.6L V8. Now that sucker is smoooooth as butter. But the Lexus engine probably costed (the factory) about as much as our whole car costs to Mitsubishi. Based on that, I think Mitsubishi knocked our 3-tapper out of the park!

Personally - I think you made a helluva wise choice for your first new vehicle purchase.

Actually, the Mirage doesn't shake THAT much!
You should see a Toyota (Daihatsu) 1KR engine, a 1L 3cylinder, then you know what shaking is! They usually last very long, in spite of the shakes.
The 3 cylinder VW engines have balance shafts and are as smooth as a good 4 cylinder. The crankshaft in those is in a split crankcase and VW warns about dismantling it, because it would warp beyond repair. Some of these have very serious problems with burnt out exhaust valves, scored cylinders, etc, etc.
Be happy you've got a Mirage, grin and bear the shake!

Btw, FIAT sells very efficient two-cylinders...

My 3cyl is usually pretty smooth. I noticed early on that it sounded a little like an electric sewing machine. There's a small stretch of road that I take a few times a week that freaks me out almost every time because there's a horrible rattle, but I'm finally convincing myself that it's just the pattern of grooves in the road...it's only there. Interesting thinking about balancing...makes me wonder about the 5cyl engines.
