Surprisingly the hatchback does better in side crash testing. Check out IIHS on the Mirage and Mirage G4 as the Mirage hatch gets a GOOD rating the Mirage G4 gets an ACCEPTABLE rating and scores lower in a few areas. Also the Mirage G4 has 2 ACCEPTABLE marks on the Moderate Frontal Crash where the Mirage hatch has all GOOD for Moderate Fontal Crash. Then if you check out the dummy technical measurements for each test the Mirage hatch does better than the Mirage G4 in Frontal and Side crashes. As for rear I am sure the Mirage G4 would do better due to far more crush area but there is no testing on that. I was shocked at the results and measurements but the hatch seems to have better results than the extended structure of the sedan. You can view technical measurements under each test section too.
