Sometimes, smaller is better - and I don't mean just saving weight. Smaller wires tend to flex better, depending on the application. So long as it is capable of delivering the power necessary at the other end without loss of power or risk of overheating. Depending on the insulation type, conductor material, number of strands and in communicating circuits number of twists per foot/meter...
