    Best Synthetic Oil Brand

In the past year or so, Project Farm has done some extensive testing of synthetic motor oil. His results have been shared on youtube.com. I am going to list a few of the common brands discussed on this forum @ times. If you use that particular brand, you may have an interest on how it does? By watching a clip, you will also see how the oils were tested against one another. It's a synthetic oil playoff. You can search for any clips I omitted, too.

Even if you aren't interested in each playoff round, I suggest you watch the championship round (Amsoil vs Pennzoil). At the end, he shows the number of additive packages for each oil, amounts of detergents added to each oil, and other very interesting information. You can draw your own conclusions at the end of that one clip alone.

Speaking for myself - I am not a brand loyalty type of person. I started using 0W-20 synthetic oil in 2013 when I purchase my 2011 Subaru Forester 2.5X manual @ 15,000 miles. At that time, Mobil 1 0W-20 was the main choice on the shelves of Walmart. Thus, I started using Mobil 1 0W-20 without giving it much thought (other than it was easy to throw in the shopping cart). Since that time, numerous 0W-20 oils have appeared on the shelves.

I realize the above tests were not done with 0W-20 oil, but I find it interesting that the tester himself uses Amazon Basics and SuperTech synthetic oil in his own vehicles. From the comment section, you get a sense that consumers are somewhat surprised by the low ranking of Mobil 1 in many different areas. It was enough of a surprise that some customers were returning their Mobil 1 to the store. I think that is a bit of an overreaction. It may steer you in a different direction in the future, however.

I am like the tester somewhat. I don't think there is a bad synthetic oil on the market. Frequent oil changes & good oil filters (keeping your oil clean) are probably more important than the brand of oil you use. The more I explore synthetic oil options, the more confusing it can be. What brand oil is best for a Mirage? I don't have a clue!

Everyone can draw their own conclusions from watching all this.
