Mirages/Space Stars spotted in the wild (pics! Not your own car)

I took the day off to go snowboarding and saw my first Mirage in the wild!

It was a top spec SAPPHIRE BLUE one (SE, in Canada) zipping down the freeway. It was going the opposite direction, so no pic. This will have to do...

    (Mitsubishi photo)

It was exactly like this photo, if this photo also showed lots of snow, frozen slush & road salt stains.

Have you spotted any on the road yet? (PH members, I can already guess the answer to that question.)

Rarely. However, yesterday saw two - both ES with no backup camera. One Graphite Gray and one Infrared with black side moldings.

I've seen three in the wild so far.

One kiwi green DE back in early October (was about the first week they came out) on Century Blvd near LAX. It caught my attention, but I thought it was a Fiesta at first.

One grey Mirage at night (couldn't tell the trim) on the USC campus about a week before Christmas

And a Sapphire Blue ES on Interstate 15 on the way to Las Vegas, about 70 miles outside of Sin City. Somebody was intrepid enough to venture across the desert in one and it was doing a good job keeping up with traffic

That was probably the fleet car we've seen in a bunch of road test reviews.

That's what I thought too, or it was possibly a rental car (being close to the airport). However, this one had paper dealer plates from South Coast Mitsubishi, which in California meant that it was recently purchased by a private owner. It was also a young couple riding around in it. As the Mirage ad states "a small car for a big life!"

I also want to add that each time I've had these Mirage spottings, my fiancé is with me and I get so excited over seeing one. They always keep saying "just get the damn Mirage already!" Lol

I haven't seen any black side moldings in official photos -- dealer added?

There was a press release back in October that Avis was renting out Mirages:

    http://www.avis.com/car-rental/conte...e-US_en-044959

I rent cars typically two times a month (it's one of my simple pleasures to try something new and different, plus it keeps wear and tear off the Focus) and even write a blog about the cars: roorentalcarreviews.com. Each time I rent from various agencies, I scour the lot for a Mirage and there's never been a single one. It's usually a Spark, Sonic, Fiesta, Versa, Yaris, 2, Accent, or Rio that's residing in the economy car section. It's inevitable that Mirages will eventually be there

It's a $155 accessory that can be purchased from the dealer

Neat! Read a few reviews (the Mazda AZ is interesting). I'm looking forward to the Mirage review.
