I can't prove it, but I think cold air intake will give more power, as you can put more fuel/air mixture in the cylinder at the same pressure. Warm air will give a better mpg, as the ignition of the mixture doesn't have to warm up itself first, and so can reach a higher expansion per unit fuel.

That has always been my thinking as well Space Wolf. With a few minor exceptions like if the air gets too hot, it may need to retard ignition timing and that'll kill efficiency. But, I think to get to that point is pretty excessive.

Contrary to my previous post my '17 does/did in fact have this deflector. I pulled it off today. One 10mm bolt and a plastic push rivet held it on.
And just FYI.. The deflector is still there on the 2018 in the pic that starts this thread. If you zoom in on the far left of the latch mech you can see the push rivet that holds it on.
I'm gonna run without it to see if I can match the economy of my '14 which didn't have it.
*you can see tab and rivet like my second pic*

Daox (03-16-2018)
I checked out a 2018 at our auto show, and it had the air deflector. The question is, can it be added to older models, and is there any benefit?
Thanks for the update IchabodCrane. It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference one way or the other.
