A 200k house is affordable, but few could pay in cash as collos suggested. My mortgage is like ~$1000 with taxes, etc. It's not "expensive" and I can easily afford the mortgage. But to purchase it in cash, would be very very difficult.
Before IT I was working as a paper-pusher. I was an "inside sales agent" which was a glorified title for a sales entry / data entry position. I hated everything about that job, life, and especially, the rich b@434stards that ran the company, flaunting their $50,000 watches in front of me daily, bragging about their homes, cars, and crap, as I made less than what their watch was worth yearly.
I don't want to be rich. But I don't want to work for rich people either. The company I'm at is 3 people strong, and we all make nearly identical wages. That fact alone, makes my job 5000x better.

I built one house when I sold my repair shop, built another with the gains from NO1 so the second one is free with capital created by the first. Current assesment is 315k. No house payments in 20 years. First one when we got married was 10.5 % interest, paid that off in two years then started leveraging. Sold first built house in 2004 for $325k, the PROFIT (tax free) paid for the materials for the second house. Wife worked while I built and got paid monthly for my sold business.
If we needed capital a reverse mortgage would be an option, or a motor home. Taxes and insurance are still over 3k a year
regards

I paid a little over 13k for an ES model 5 speed (1.2l) and my dad paid a little over 12k for an ES with CVT. Both brand new like barely 5 miles on each (from test drives and them filling it up full tank for us).
from what i remember working for dealers, you pay a little over their cost (but dunno for dealers near you). dealers near me, if you work for them, my buddy is at honda, he can get a brand new 18k honda fit for like 10k brand new.
EDIT: oh yeah USD ($$$)
