So that means if I'm going to crash my Mirage, I'd better aim to hit with my license plate and not my headlight.

They would never give credit to the Mirage. It's like curing cancer. If it happened the whole infrastructure of trillions spent on cancer treatment, research and cures would vanish, because the problem is solved.
If the general public knew how good this car is, the rest of the overpriced inefficient manufacturers would stop feeding them advertisement money and they, like the cancer treatment infrastructure, would shrivel up and die a slow painful economic decline into oblivion.
It will happen the day after we find an honest used car salesman or politician. You know what they say about tomorrow.

They are a bunch of middle-aged suburban dwellers who are fighting baldness and extra weight and think of nothing else but Camry. Hard to get a positive review on 3cyl small hatch from them - they have never given one to a city car.

Even though our weirdo- car expert Jason Torchinsky seems to like this thing, for most buyers it is the epitome of a penalty box. It’s slow, it feels cheap, and despite the size, the gas mileage isn’t even that great.

Though I have to say I chuckled at this comment on Jalopnik:
I feel like they chose the Mirage so it wouldn’t look like they were beating up on FCA. They could have easily given the subcompact to the 500, which is far less reliable than the Mirage.

"You can do much better than these ten cars".
Of course. You can have better speed/acceleration, better safety, better cargo capacity, better towing, better luxury, even better fuel efficiency (hybrid/electric) . . .
I don't think you could actually have better value (both as a new price and a cost of ownership).
I don't know what would have better reliability (maybe a Civic or Corolla without all the info-tainment systems?)
You can't do "much better" on fuel consumption without spending almost twice as much.
I don't understand why CR wants to sell big cars. They claim to take no add revenue - what's the incentive?
