Mirage to be revealed tomorrow in South Africa; available August 2014

South Africa gets its first look at the Mirage starting tomorrow (through to Oct 27) at the Johannesburg Motor Show.

... Mirage takes Mitsubishi SA straight into one of the toughest segments [subcompact cars] of the local market, but also the largest segment in the SA market. Well priced and well specced, the Mirage should take on its competitors head to head.

No details regarding the specification of the cars or the pricing have been released yet, but they are sure to be very competitive and to continue Mitsubishi SA’s policy of offering value-for-money products.

While detailed specs aren't revealed, the article says S.A. will get the 1.2L engine and choice of manual or CVT in 4 derivatives.

Mitsu has 49 dealers in the country.

Well, it's not something totally different, though you'd be forgiven for thinking it might be if you look at the truck & SUV dominance in Mitsu's South African lineup!

However, it's now official: the car goes on sale next month:

Mitsubishi aims to enter uncharted waters and with its new Mirage, hinting at a resurgence in this country. The brand has most notably been identified with SUVs and LCVs. There has been only the occasional foray into sedan territory. That will change come August with the local introduction of the all-new Mirage 5-door hatchback.

Positive responses to the Mirage display at last year’s Johannesburg Motor Show helped convince the local importers about the car’s prospects.
