    Scan Gauge Alternative

    Hi,

For those on low budget . I use ELM327 ODB2 Bluetooth, Android phone and free app called Torque Lite https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rquefree&hl=en
ELM327 can be purchased on ebay for $8.90
    Setup is very easy:
You need to pair with the elm327 dongle (password 1234). It does not interfere with car's phone bluetooth connection. They both run at this same time.

In Torque app you need to go to settings and change RPM to 8000, Weight to 1010 kg (weight must be in kg. Cars weight is approx 907 kg plus my fat butt.) and Engine to 1.2 liter. ( I put 1.3 liter and still shows too optimistic). This app is great. I use actual mpg, avg mpg (it is different than car, still working on it), coolant temp, load. I recommend to use display instead of dial because it is quicker to check numbers, keep your eyes on the road.

Let me know, If anybody needs help or have questions. I will do my best to answer on the forum.

    Tom

I have been wanting to buy an OBD2 bluetooth and pair it with my spare android phone (nexus one) but not have had time to do it... But at 8.90, I might find the time to do it, mount my phone on top of the rear view mirror, and run a line to permanently charge the phone while I'm driving.

Thats a decent way to go if you have a dedicated phone or tablet. I hear syncing them every time you get in the car with your actual phone can get annoying.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

You need to pair them once, after that phone does that automatically.
My routine is simple. Start the car , put phone into the mount, hook up the charger, open the torque app and im good to go.

I just ordered one. It's a Bluetooth/Wifi dongle that hopefully will link up to an app on my Ipad. Can't wait for it to arrive.

After rereading the description I see it's actually wi/fi only. It's just used to communicate to the ipad instead of Bluetooth.

LYL® ELM327 WIFI Wirless obd2 wifi obdii OBD2 scanner Car Diagnostic Scanner Scan Tool for Iphone iPad iOS PC .

    That's the description from Amazon.

OK. Just got the unit yesterday! I only had a little time before work today to get it running. It was super easy. I decided to buy Dash Command for the Ipad, the unit came with a demo app on cd but I did.nt like it.

First I installed Dash Command on my Ipad. Then plugged the unit onto the OBDII connector in the Mirage (It is on the left under dash right below the fuse box cover). It sticks straight down about 2.5 inches which isn't too bad, I may look for a cable to put the unit under the dash somewhere. I know they make splitter cables for OBDII but would need to find a right angle plug.

Then fire up the car and the Ipad. Go to settings on the Ipad to find the Wi/Fi (its called OBDII on mine), just connect to the proper wifi then go to Dash Command and hit connect! That's it, you can then play with Dash Command to put in car info, weight drag etc....

I haven't had time to fully explore all the options, so I'll try to get some pictures/videos up .
